A Detailed Guide on using shampoo and conditoner for Good Hair

Know This Before You Use The Shampoo And Conditioner Duo

Shampoos and conditioners are a part of our weekend routines. But how many of us have actually taken time to see what goes in the shampoos and conditioners we use?

Since the matter is about our hair, we should be extra cautious when it comes to the ingredients we put into it. A good hair cleansing ritual is the pathway to clear, healthy hair!

For this you don’t need fancy and expensive items as part of your shower routine. Just be mindful of how you select the shampoo and conditioner duo you are going to buy for your hair.

Not all that glitters is gold. Similarly not all branded conditioners or shampoos are good for your hair. In fact, some contain harsh chemicals that might damage your hair, instead of repairing it. Choosing the right one suitable for your hair type is the first step to taking care of it.

And this is why we will help you know everything about  conditioner shampoo use in this blog. Stay tuned!

All About Shampoo And Conditioners

Shampoo is a typical haircare product in the form of a liquid, which is used for cleaning your hair. Shampoo is generally applied to the scalp to remove excess sebum or oil from the hair and make it fluffy.

First, dilute your shampoo and apply and massage it on the scalp. Leave it for a few minutes and rinse it thoroughly with lukewarm water.

Shampoos are generally made by combining a surfactant (sodium lauryl sulfate) and a cosurfactant (betaine) in water. The discovery of shampoos date back to ancient India where they used herbal extracts as natural surfactants.

Speaking of conditioners, it is a hair cosmetic product that improves the texture and appearance of the hair. It is widely available in the form of gels, liquids, as well as creams and lotions.

A hair conditioner is usually used after we shampoo and rinse our hair. It is applied only to the ends of the hair and not to the roots. Its main purpose is to reduce the friction between the strands of hair while combing.

Now that we know what shampoos and hair conditioners are, let us look at how they are beneficial for our hair.

How Does Shampoo And Conditioner Help Your Hair?

The combo of both of these keeps our hair healthy and manageable, and free of tangles and coarse texture. They help our hair in many ways:

Gives that shine

Using a shampoo and a conditioner gives the perfect, soft and shiny texture to our hair. This is because shampoos remove the excess oil and keep the hair free of dirt, while conditioners smoothen the hair and give it a shine.

Both of them have different benefits to give our hair, so it is recommended to use both together.

Shampoo equals clean hair

Have you ever wondered why you feel so light after using a shampoo and washing your hair? The reason is that it removes dirt and other dust particles, along with excess oil. This relieves your hair and makes it grow.

Conditioner equals smooth, nourished hair

After washing hair with shampoo, applying conditioner to the ends of the hair keeps the hair cuticles smooth and polished.

It is an important element in re-hydrating your hair and balancing out the potential dryness from using a shampoo.

PS: always apply your conditioner after shampooing your hair to hydrate it. Make sure to buy both these products from the same brand.

Is there a correct way to wash hair?

Would you believe it if I said there is a sequence or method to follow when washing your hair? Next time before washing your hair, spend some extra time on this, and it will pay off in the form of smooth and healthy hair.

The hair care sequence consists of a few steps to follow. Make sure you get the order right :p.

Step 1

Prepare

Before you jump into the shower, make sure to comb your hair and remove any tangled strands, if any. Then, check if you have any accessories on and remove them too.

Pro tip: Use a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner for the best results.

Step 2

Lather

Prep your hair for the shower. Wet your hair first with lukewarm water (not hot water, as it can dry your scalp). Then apply a pea-sized amount of the shampoo. In case you have long or thick hair, then a quarter-sized amount will do. Now gently bring the shampoo and massage it around the nape of your neck, and slowly move towards your scalp.

Step 3

Massage

Once your shampoo sets in your scalp, gently massage it with your fingers for a few minutes. This is truly relaxing! Massaging also increases the blood circulation of the hair and promotes healthy hair growth.

Step 4

Rinse

After you are done with massaging, thoroughly wash your hair with lukewarm water. Do not rush this step, and take your time to wash it off completely. When the water runs crystal clear, you are good to go.

Step 5

Condition

Once you are done with shampooing your hair, the next step is to condition it using a conditioner. Squeeze out excess water from the hair and apply a very small quantity of a nourishing conditioner. Leave it for 5 minutes and wash it off.

Step 6

Rinse

Give your hair a final cool rinse under the shower. This seals the hair cuticles and boosts your hair’s natural shine.

Step 7

Dry your hair

This is post your shower, so make sure to dry your hair thoroughly so that you don't catch a cold. Having said that, avoid using a dryer (as tempting as it can be) and dry your hair naturally with a towel — or even better, a cotton T-shirt.

How many times in a week should you wash your hair?

This is a question that often comes to our minds. It varies from hair to hair and there is no exact number you should be looking for.

If you have oily hair,

Wash your hair every alternate day to remove excess oil.

If you have a straight hair, or use styling for hair,

Wash your hair 2-3 times a week to reduce the heat damage caused to it.

If you have thick or curly hair,

Washing your hair every 3-4 days is enough.

If you have very curly or dry textured hair,

It is recommended to wash your hair once a week or even less to avoid over drying of your hair.

Now that we know how and when we should use shampoo or a conditioner, it’s time to see what shampoos we shouldn’t buy.

What is the worst shampoo for you?

If you see these ingredients in a shampoo bottle, then run away from it!

Sulfates: these are harsh chemical detergents which will give a nice foamy lather. But post washing, it damages your hair and makes it dry and frizzy.

Parabens: these are preservatives that are added to shampoos and other products to increase their shelf life. Parabens irritate your scalp and can even cause severe hair fall.

DMDMh: it is also called DMDM hydantoin, which is a cosmetic preservative. It can irritate the scalp and cause allergies.

Unsustainable or unethical ingredients: that are mentioned on the shampoo are a big no.

There’s no doubt that finding the right shampoo which is also safe for your hair is a nearly impossible task. This is why UnbottleCo has launched their organic shampoos and conditioners all created in a hairtelligent®way to protect and help our hair grow!
